Where is here? Orientation in the dark. After an extensive search and intensive discussions with blind persons and experts in orientation, we developed a tactile map of the Constanz Town according to functional criteria. It enables blind people, before entering an area, to acquire by itself. Space conception and in this way it permits a first and useful input during the orientation process. The tactile map could be integrated into future wayfinding systems or already existing systems. Moreover, acoustic aids are incorporated in order to build an environment “free of barriers“. “Being a blind person, the map makes me capable of more. I get something into my hands, which promises to be a piece of liberty for me. In my opinion, within this area there is still an unbelievable quantity of accumulated demand.“ (Urs Rehmann, birth-blind)

»Burg-Designshop - burgshop on tour« | 2005

IIn July 2005 in the centre of Halle, the Burg-Designshop opened as a store that the students had fitted in line with their own drafts and ideas and where they could now very successfully sell their own products. In short-term projects and workshops, new product ideas originate that are produced by the designers in small series, to be tested in the market via the Burgshop. Should demand for a product increase, there is a selection of companies and workshops that can intervene to provide support in manufacturing and sales.
Since October 2006 there is also the “burgshop on tour”, a mobile version consisting of several handy modules and which is on tour in German and Switzerland.

The aim was to carry out an overall strong design, which incorporated weighty objects from the heavy industry. The new design should also contribute to the atmosphere of the entire station and be styled to be eye-catching for travellers passing through and be effective from a distance.
