The members of the Villa Arte e.V. art association in Chemnitz have already been working for several months with commitment and enthusiasm on the preparation of the 4th International Marianne Brandt Contest that will call for entries throughout Europe in October 2009.
Every three years, the competition calls on young designers, photographers, students and high school graduates to apply for the prestigious prizes and awards with their current designs and concepts. The contest once again upholds the established theme: "The Poetry of the Functional".
As a tribute to one of the most noted daughters of the city of Chemnitz, the competition will be run in the categories of product design and photography, thus drawing upon the most prolific creative areas of the famous Bauhaus artist Marianne Brandt.
A third category changes in each competition and this year will cover the topic of "LIGHT in public spaces".
Together with the city of Chemnitz, the Free State of Saxony, the Sparkasse Chemnitz bank and various companies from the private sector, Villa Arte e.V. also plans to use the year 2009 - the ninetieth anniversary of the Bauhaus - to remind people of the thoughts and ideas behind this famous avant-garde school that characterised an era, as well as to inspire innovative design discussion.
